Taormina is one of the main international tourist attractions in Sicily for its charming natural landscape, the beautiful sea and its historical monuments.

The symbol of the city is the Greek Theatre, a.k.a. The Ancient Theatre, with its Corinthian columns and from which there is a breath-taking view.

With a diameter of 110 meters it is second only to the theatre in Syracuse, but not inferior in importance or beauty.

The sea has always been a major economic source: in the past the sea gave job to many fishermen, nowadays it is also an important tourist landmark.

The mild climate, the beauty of the Ionian Sea and the several natural places that form the corollary of the city such as Isola Bella, Capo St. Andrea, Mazzarò, Baia delle Sirene (Bay of Sirens) and the beautiful landscape offer a rich environmental heritage that contributes to the reputation of the town.

Every year, various events take place in Taormina, especially during the summer,. The Greek Theatre hosts exceptional concerts (classical and pop music), dramas, operas and great shows broadcast on national television (Silver Ribbons Award Ceremony, Festivalbar, Kore, only to make a few examples).

From 1983, the most important events are sponsored by Taormina Arte, a cultural institution that organizes events for music, theatre and dance.

Part of the planning is the Taormina Film Fest, the cinema festival of Taormina. Successor of the Messina and Taormina Film Festival, born in 1960, it hosted for 20 years the awards ceremony “David by Donatello”, with the participation of many famous stars.

During the Film Festival, at the Greek Theatre, the prestigious Silver Ribbon Awards are given by film journalists.

Taormina is accessible through the A18 Messina-Catania highway, exit Taormina, or through Strada Statale 114 Orientale Sicula Messina-Catania. There is also a train station, Taormina-Giardini, where all trains stop and it is connected to the national railway RFI.

It is also connected to the airport of Catania-Fontanarossa and to the most important cities in Sicily by bus.
